In 1990, Thrasher Magazine started a tradition when they named their first “skater of the year,” based on readers votes. The first “SOTY” was awarded to Tony Hawk, and previous winners have included Tony Trujilo, Geoff Rowley, and Danny Way, who is the only skater to have won the award twice. Over the years, it's become one of the most sought after honors in pro skateboarding. This year's winner is Eugene Oregon's Silas Baxter-Neal, from the Habitat skate team. Silas is a fearless skater who will skate anything, no matter how dangerous. Thrasher threw the SOTY party at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall and featured appearances by skating legends like Brian Anderson, Matt Field, Tony Trujillo, and a performance by rapper Too $hort..
